As night falls, lights illuminate the way home, and the garden reveals a serene beauty different from the daytime under the glow of the lights. Choose the right garden lights to make the trees and flowers shine at night, showcasing the best architectural features.

Methods of Illuminating Garden

  • Floodlighting: a method where the brightness of a specific illuminated area or visual target is significantly higher than that of other targets and surrounding areas, capable of lighting up a large area.
  • Contour lighting: using strip lights /linear lights to outline an object’s contours, highlighting the carrier’s outer contour. Often used in garden wall lighting design.
  • Translucent lighting: utilizes light transmitted from within an object to create a landscape lighting effect. This method is generally used for lighting garden glass houses.
  • Accent lighting: refers to lighting particular areas to create a lively and dynamic light atmosphere. It can be used for the main landscape in gardens, such as trees, fountains, and ponds.

You might not be very familiar with Class 0, I, II, and III lighting fixtures. The table below provides a clear overview.

Lighting Fixture Classes 0, I, II, III

Lamp ClassFeaturesApplication
0Protective Reliance on Basic Insulation – Insulation between easily accessible parts and between the enclosure and live parts. For places with high safety, convenient installation and maintenance pendant lights and ceiling mounted lights in place such as those with dry air, minimal dust, and wooden flooring
IIn addition to basic insulation, easily accessible parts and the enclosure are equipped with grounding devices. This ensures safety in case the basic insulation fails.suitable for metal enclosure lighting fixtures such as floodlights, street lights, and garden lights, enhancing safety.
IIIn addition to basic insulation, there is also supplementary insulation, making it double insulation or reinforced insulation, enhancing safety. With excellent insulation and high safety levels, suitable for use in environments with poor conditions and where people frequently touch the fixtures, such as table lamps and handheld lamps.
IIIUsing extra-low safety extra-low voltage (AC effective value <50V), and no voltage higher than extra-low voltage is generated inside the lamp. This ensures the highest safety level for lighting fixturessuitable for harsh environments such as machine tool work lights and children’s lamps.

Types of Garden Lights and Installation

Lawn Lights
Using AC 220V lighting fixtures, the dedicated embedded parts for the fixtures are embedded in concrete in advance and fixed. The embedded parts protrude from the ground by 150 to 300mm.

Fountain lights
Using a 220V to 12V safety voltage, with a dedicated transformer in the distribution, the cable connections of the lighting fixtures are waterproofed with epoxy resin to ensure no electricity leakage. The water pump utilizes an AC voltage 220V stainless steel vertical clean water pump, connected via a live joint connection, easy to disassemble and replace.

Underwater Lights
If the pool is internally waterproofed, the base of the fixture should be secured with stainless steel bolts onto a 3cm thick stone and then placed the lamp into the water.
If the pool is externally waterproofed, choose recessed lighting fixtures. The installation is similar to inground lights. First, secure the PVC groove of the fixture, and after the cement solidifies, install the fixtures.

Outdoor Spotlights for Trees
The cables are buried underground and concealed. All spotlights are converted to 24V voltage, and the installation method can be spike or ground. The distance at the circuit interface should be as close as possible to the lamp.

Outdoor wall light and LED strip
The primary task at installation and cable connection points is waterproof. Since both ends of the led strip are prone to water ingress, special attention should be paid to waterproofing at both ends, especially in areas where there is a risk of electric leakage.

Inground lights
First, drill holes in the stone according to the specifications. During installation, use cement to secure the PVC groove of the fixture. After the cement solidifies, install the lighting fixtures.
